To remove bulk from thick, curly hair without shortening your length:
1. Comb through your hair to remove any tangles.
2. Part your hair, horizontally, about 3" from the center and clip that section out of the way. (You will not want to cut this top portion; you will want to cut in the mid-section).
3. Take a 1" section of hair and hold it straight out toward you. Beginning at mid-shaft (halfway between the roots of your hair and the ends), make a cut with your thinning shears. While you continue to hold the hair, move your shears down about 1" and make another cut. Continue until you have reached the bottom of your section.
4. Take another 1" section (next to the one you just thinned) and repeat step 3.
5. Continue until the entire mid-section has been thinned.
To texturize straight, lifeless hair:
1. Comb through your hair to remove any tangles.
2. Take a section of hair, comb it straight toward you and hold it, about 1" from the ends (you will be cutting just this bottom section, closest to the ends).
3. Close your shears on the hair, just below where your fingers are holding it, and slide them to the tips.
4. Move on to the next 1" section of hair (next to the one you just texturized) and repeat steps 2 & 3.
5. Repeat until you have texturized the ends around your entire head.
